The FE8 test is used to investigate the wear and friction behaviour of lubricating oils and greases under conditions specific to the lubricant and bearing. To assess the suitability of the lubricant under test, the friction and temperature behaviour, as well as the wear and the resulting weight loss of the bearings fitted in the test setup, are determined. The tests also enable the production of surface contact traces as well as analyses of the lubricant and the reaction layer.
